It fills the academic needs of some students and that is where the need arises. It is a political and advocacy question, and it is particularly crucial since most students are currently graduates of families with low-income or racial/ethnic minorities. Unless the educational system is capable of nurturing the abilities of the low-income students, then what is the purpose? In gifted teaching, tension always exists between two supposed objectives which is nurturing excellence and ensuring equity.</span></span>
