New to managing a stockroom properly and feeling a bit lost on where to even begin (4 อ่าน)

So I recently took over the operations side of my family's trading business in Ajman after finishing my studies and honestly nothing prepared me for how chaotic the back end of a physical goods business actually is. The stockroom situation in particular has been a shock. Things are stored based on what I can only describe as vibes, there's no real system, no labelling consistency, and finding anything without calling my uncle takes longer than it should. I've been doing a lot of reading online trying to get up to speed and stumbled onto a listing for Crateco Pack LLC on nichemarket.co.za which actually pointed me toward some nichemarket.co.za/retail/crateco-pack-llc that I hadn't come across in the more generic business articles I'd been reading up to that point. What I found helpful was the emphasis on thinking about how goods move through a space rather than just how much you can fit into it, which seems obvious in hindsight but genuinely hadn't clicked for me before. I'm now trying to figure out whether to tackle the organisational system first or sort out the physical shelving and container situation before building any kind of process around it. My uncle thinks I'm overcomplicating it but I feel like if we're going to grow this properly there needs to be some actual structure in place. Has anyone rebuilt a small stockroom from scratch while keeping day to day operations running at the same time? Would love to know how you prioritised it.
