I’ve been comparing different post MBBS fellowship course in India options, but the number of specialties available is making the decision harder than I expected. There are programs related to Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, Cardiology, Dermatology, Family Medicine, Pediatrics and several other areas. Each field has a different type of clinical work, so I don’t think choosing only on the basis of popularity makes much sense.



For me, the important question is what makes one fellowship more useful than another. Should I first decide the clinical specialty I’m interested in and then look for suitable programs, or should I compare the structure of different courses before deciding on the specialty?



I’m particularly interested in programs that provide more than recorded lectures. Case-based discussions, live classes with specialists, clinical demonstrations and supervised hospital exposure seem much more useful for developing confidence than studying theory alone. At the same time, I want to understand whether the duration of the fellowship is sufficient to gain meaningful exposure.



Another thing I’m considering is future career relevance. Some doctors may want to work in hospitals, while others may eventually develop a focused private practice or continue toward formal postgraduate education. I assume the right fellowship could be different for each person.



For doctors who have already completed a fellowship after MBBS, what factors helped you choose your specialty? Did you focus mainly on your interest, clinical demand, practical exposure, faculty or career opportunities? I’d appreciate genuine experiences rather than promotional recommendations.
